Description
The 74LS193 is a high-speed TTL 4-bit synchronous up/down binary counter. It features separate clock inputs for “count up” and “count down,” allowing it to count in either direction. The device is fully synchronous, meaning all four outputs change state simultaneously, which eliminates the “glitching” or “ripple” effect common in asynchronous counters.
This IC includes a parallel load capability, allowing the counter to be preset to any binary value from 0 to 15. It also features an asynchronous clear (reset) input that forces all outputs to a LOW state. Because it is a 4-bit device, it can be easily cascaded with additional 74LS193 chips to create larger multi-bit counters without the need for additional external logic.
