Description

The 74LS125 is a Quad 3-state non-inverting buffer. It features four independent buffers, each controlled by an individual active-LOW Output Enable (OE-bar) input. Unlike standard buffers that always drive the signal to a HIGH or LOW state, this device allows the output to be placed into a high-impedance (high-Z) state when the enable pin is HIGH.

This “3-state” capability is essential for bus-oriented systems, as it allows multiple devices to be connected to the same communication line without signal contention. The device is specifically engineered with “break-before-make” timing, where the disable time is shorter than the enable time, ensuring that two outputs never conflict when switching control of a shared bus.
