Description
The 74HC165 is a high-speed 8-bit CMOS shift register that accepts parallel data inputs and provides a serial output. It is widely used to expand the number of digital inputs on a microcontroller, allowing you to read the state of up to 8 switches or sensors using only three pins on your controller.
When the Parallel Load (PL) pin is pulled LOW, the device asynchronously loads the 8-bit parallel data from its inputs. Once loaded, the data can be shifted out serially on the Q7 output pin using a clock signal. This makes it an efficient and cost-effective solution for interfacing large numbers of inputs to systems with limited GPIO ports.
