Description
The 74HC240 is a high-speed, silicon-gate CMOS Octal Inverting Buffer/Line Driver featuring 3-state outputs. It contains eight independent inverting buffers organized into two 4-bit groups, each controlled by separate active-LOW Output Enable (OE-bar) inputs. The device is designed to improve the performance and density of 3-state memory address drivers, clock drivers, and bus-oriented transmitters/receivers.
The 3-state outputs are capable of driving high-capacitance bus lines, making it an excellent choice for buffering signals on a data bus. Since the buffers are inverting, the output is the logical NOT of the input. When the Output Enable inputs are HIGH, the outputs enter a high-impedance state, allowing for seamless bus sharing without signal contention.
