Description

The 74AC273SCX is a high-speed CMOS octal D-type flip-flop designed for data storage and synchronization. It integrates eight individual D-type flip-flops that share a common buffered Clock (CP) input and an asynchronous Master Reset (MR) input. This design allows all eight bits of data to be captured simultaneously on the rising edge of the clock signal, making it an ideal choice for parallel data registration in microprocessor and memory interface applications.

The device is fully edge-triggered, meaning it captures the state of the D-inputs exactly at the LOW-to-HIGH transition of the clock, provided the setup time requirements are met. The inclusion of an asynchronous Master Reset allows for immediate clearing of all stored data, forcing all Q outputs to a LOW state regardless of the clock or data input status.

Features

  • Eight Flip-Flops: Contains eight independent D-type flip-flops in a single 20-pin package.
  • Synchronous Storage: Common buffered clock ensures simultaneous data capture across all channels.
  • Asynchronous Reset: Dedicated Master Reset (MR) input forces all outputs LOW independently of clock signals.
  • Drive Capability: Outputs can source/sink up to 24 mA, suitable for driving bus lines or interface circuitry.
  • Versatile Compatibility: Part of the 74AC series, providing high-speed performance compatible with various CMOS logic environments.
  • Package: Industry-standard SOIC-20 surface-mount package.

Benefits

  • Parallel Data Handling: Simplifies the design of 8-bit registers by providing a single point of control for the clock and reset.
  • Improved System Reliability: The asynchronous reset provides a reliable way to initialize system state during power-up or error recovery.
  • Robust Integration: High output drive capability allows for direct interfacing with other system components without needing additional buffer ICs.

Applications

  • Data Registers: Implementing temporary storage for 8-bit parallel data buses.
  • Microprocessor Interfacing: Used as a buffer for memory or I/O port data.
  • Sequential Logic: Serving as a key component in state machines and counter circuits.
  • Signal Synchronization: Aligning multiple data signals to a common system clock pulse.
