Description
The LM3915 is a monolithic integrated circuit that senses analog voltage levels and drives ten LEDs, providing a 3 dB/step logarithmic analog display. It is ideal for monitoring signal levels in audio equipment, such as VU meters, power meters, or signal strength indicators, where human perception of loudness or brightness is logarithmic.
The device features an internal reference and a precision divider that sets the threshold for each of the ten output stages. It can be configured to operate in either “dot” mode, where only one LED is lit at a time, or “bar” mode, where LEDs light up sequentially. This versatility, combined with its ability to drive LEDs directly without current-limiting resistors, simplifies the design of high-quality display indicators.
