Description
This L298N Based Motor Driver Module – 2A is a high power motor driver perfect for driving DC Motors and Stepper Motors. It uses the popular L298 motor driver IC and has an onboard 5V regulator which can supply power to external circuits. It can control up to 4 DC motors, or 2 DC motors with independent directional and speed control.
This module is built for demanding automation, robotics, and industrial mechatronics projects. It provides seamless interfacing with microcontrollers, PLCs, switches, and relays to drive DC and stepper actuators in applications ranging from automated guided vehicles to precision laboratory equipment.
Note: Board color may vary depending on the production batch.
Pinout & Connections
- Out1 & Out2: Motor A leads connection terminals.
- Out3 & Out4: Motor B leads connection terminals.
- 12V (or 5V-35V): Main power input for motor driving (accepts 7V to 35V DC).
- GND: Common Ground (ensure all system grounds—MCU, power source, and driver—are tied together).
- 5V: 5V logic input (if power source is 7V-35V, this pin acts as a 5V regulated output; unnecessary if using a separate 5V logic source).
- EnA & EnB: PWM enable pins for Motor A and Motor B speed control. (Can be jumped to 5V if PWM control is not required).
- In1, In2, In3, In4: Direction control logic pins for Motor A and Motor B.
Key Features
- Dual H-Bridge Architecture: Powered by the industry-standard L298 IC for robust bidirectional control.
- High Power Capacity: Drives up to 4 DC motors or 2 bipolar stepper motors effortlessly.
- Integrated 5V Regulator: Automatically steps down input voltages (7V–35V) to supply clean 5V logic power to external controllers.
- Thermal Management: Features a built-in heavy-duty aluminum heatsink for enhanced performance and heat dissipation.
- Status Indicators: Built-in Power-On LED indicator for immediate visual verification.
Arduino / Microcontroller Integration Notes
The control logic is straightforward. Since no complex library is strictly required, you simply declare your chosen digital and PWM pins in your sketch:
- Direction Pins (In1-In4): Connect to any available digital GPIO pins on your microcontroller.
- Speed/PWM Pins (EnA, EnB): Must be connected to hardware PWM pins if you wish to regulate motor speed via software (e.g., analogWrite).
- Compatible Platforms: Fully compatible with Arduino (MEGA, UNO, Nano), STM32, ESP32, and standard industrial PLCs.
Industrial & Automation Focus
- Industrial Automation & Conveyor Systems: Precise control of small automated sorting lines, conveyor belt actuators, and material handling sub-assemblies.
- Robotics & Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs): Reliable drive electronics for line-following robots, robotic arms, micro-mouse units, and autonomous mobile carts.
- Medical & Laboratory Equipment: Motion control for automated sample dispensers, diagnostic testing trays, and peristaltic pumps.
- Prototyping & Mechatronics R&D: Essential benchtop module for testing custom electromechanical setups and multi-axis motor systems.
