Description
The 74HC4514 is a high-speed, silicon-gate CMOS 4-to-16 line decoder/demultiplexer that includes an integrated 4-bit input latch. This device decodes four binary-coded inputs (A0–A3) into one of sixteen mutually exclusive active-HIGH outputs (Y0–Y15).
The standout feature of this IC is the transparent latch on the address inputs. When the Latch Enable (LE) input is HIGH, the address inputs are passed directly to the decoder. When LE transitions from HIGH to LOW, the address state is captured and held, allowing the decoder to maintain a constant output even if the input signals fluctuate. This is particularly useful in multiplexed bus systems where the address must be held stable while the data bus is used for other purposes.
