SPIDER Automation XD-216 Screw Shield V1 | Terminal & Sensor Expansion Board | For Arduino Uno & Leonardo
Description
The SPIDER Automation XD-216 Screw Shield V1 Expansion Board is an essential prototyping accessory engineered to eliminate loose port wiring and unreliable breadboard connections on Arduino-compatible systems. By combining the security of screw-down binding posts with the flexibility of a traditional sensor shield, this module ensures that every digital and analog I/O pin remains tightly secured under operational vibration.
Both sides of the board route all Arduino pins to accessible outer terminals, while stacking headers let you layer additional expansion modules on top. Designed specifically to extend power supply rails alongside signal pins, the XD-216 allows users to plug sensors and servos directly into the board without intermediate wiring harnesses. Note: To mount the shield onto an Arduino Uno footprint, the board can be separated along its center partition.
Key Features
- Combined Shield Architecture: Integrates the secure fastening of a screw terminal breakout with the expansive signal routing of an Arduino sensor shield.
- Threaded Binding Posts: Heavy-duty screw terminals allow wires to be clamped directly onto threaded contacts for maximum mechanical and electrical reliability.
- 3-Pin Sensor & Servo Headers: Extends power, ground, and signal pins into organized 3-pin male header clusters for direct actuator and sensor connection.
- Complete Pin Breakout: All microcontroller I/O ports are fully exposed on both sides of the shield to maintain total access to main board resources.
- Stackable Header Design: Built with pass-through stacking headers to accommodate multi-layer shield configurations in complex builds.
Benefits
- Eliminates Loose Connections: Screw-down terminals prevent signal drops caused by wire dislodgement in mobile or vibrating environments.
- Simplifies Prototyping Layouts: Removes the need for messy external terminal blocks by consolidating connections directly onto the shield footprint.
- Flexible Component Integration: Directly interfaces standard 3-pin electronic modules, servos, and sensors without complicated wiring work.
-
Maintains Board Expandability: Pass-through headers allow users to stack other specialty shields on top of the screw terminal board.
Applications
- Industrial Prototyping Rigs: Securing permanent or field-test wiring connections in custom automation machinery and control boxes.
- Robotics & Actuator Control Panels: Interfacing multiple servo motors and feedback sensors safely with solid mechanical screw clamp points.
- Data Acquisition Test Benches: Establishing robust, vibration-resistant sensor signal lines during electronics development.
- Permanent Arduino Installations: Deploying microcontroller projects into final enclosures where wire security is critical.
-
Educational Lab Workstations: Protecting student starter kits from wear-and-tear caused by repeated jumper wire insertions.
