Sabertooth Dual 60A Motor Driver (High-Power Regenerative Dual Channel Controller)
Description
The Sabertooth Dual 60A Motor Driver is a high-performance dual-channel motor controller designed for demanding robotics and industrial-grade mobile systems. It is engineered to deliver reliable high-current motor control for large-scale robotic platforms, including heavy-duty combat robots and general-purpose robotic vehicles.
Out of the box, the Sabertooth 2×60 can independently drive two brushed DC motors with up to 60A continuous current per channel, with peak currents reaching up to 120A for short bursts. This makes it suitable for applications requiring high torque, rapid acceleration, and heavy load handling.
The driver incorporates advanced thermal and overcurrent protection mechanisms to ensure safe operation under extreme load conditions, including motor stalls and sudden current surges. This significantly improves system reliability and reduces the risk of hardware failure.
The Sabertooth supports multiple control interfaces including analog voltage input, radio control (RC), serial communication, and packetized serial control. It offers both independent motor control and mixed mode operation, making it ideal for differential drive (tank-style) robotic systems.
Configuration is handled via onboard DIP switches, eliminating the need for external jumpers and simplifying setup. The screw terminal connectors allow for quick installation without soldering, making it highly accessible for both beginners and advanced builders.
This motor driver utilizes synchronous regenerative drive technology, which allows energy generated during braking or deceleration to be fed back into the power source. This improves overall energy efficiency and enables fast, responsive stopping and reversing performance.
The unit also includes a built-in 5V 1A switch-mode BEC capable of powering a receiver, microcontroller, or multiple standard analog servos. Lithium battery protection mode ensures safe operation with Li-ion and Li-Po battery packs. The driver operates at ultrasonic switching frequency (24kHz), ensuring silent motor operation.
Sabertooth 2×60 uses ultra-low resistance MOSFETs (0.8 milliohm) for high-efficiency power delivery and reduced heat generation. For reliable performance, the use of proper battery-based power systems is strongly recommended instead of unregulated AC adapters.
