Sabertooth Dual 25A Motor Driver (High-Efficiency Regenerative Dual Motor Controller)
Description
The Sabertooth Dual 25A Motor Driver is a high-performance dual-channel motor controller designed for medium to high-power robotics and automation applications. It is engineered to deliver reliable and efficient control of brushed DC motors in combat robots, mobile robotic platforms, electric vehicles, and industrial motion systems.
The driver can independently control two brushed DC motors with up to 25A continuous current per channel, while supporting peak currents up to 50A per channel for short durations. This makes it suitable for high-torque and high-load applications requiring responsive and stable motor control.
Integrated overcurrent and thermal protection circuitry help safeguard the driver against motor stalls, excessive loads, and overheating conditions, ensuring reliable long-term operation in demanding environments.
The Sabertooth supports multiple control interfaces including analog voltage control, RC control, serial communication, and packetized serial mode. It also supports independent and mixed mode operation, making it ideal for differential drive (tank-style) robotic systems.
Configuration is simplified using onboard DIP switches, eliminating the need for external jumpers. Screw terminal connectors allow quick and secure installation without soldering, improving ease of integration into robotics and automation projects.
The Sabertooth utilizes synchronous regenerative drive technology, allowing energy generated during braking or reverse motion to be returned to the battery system. This improves overall efficiency and enables rapid stopping and directional changes for agile robotic movement.
A built-in 5V 1A switch-mode BEC can power microcontrollers, RC receivers, and multiple standard analog servos directly from the motor power source. The driver also includes lithium battery protection mode for safe operation with Li-ion and Li-Po battery packs.
The power stage uses ultra-low resistance 1.3 milliohm MOSFETs for improved efficiency and reduced heat generation. Ultrasonic switching at 32kHz ensures silent motor operation during use.
For optimal performance and stability, the use of battery-based power systems is recommended instead of low-quality AC adapters.
