SPIDER Automation NumatoLab Skoll K7 | Kintex-7 USB FPGA Module

Description

SPIDER Automation NumatoLab Skoll K7 is a sophisticated yet user-friendly FPGA development module built for rapid prototyping and seamless integration of hardware-accelerated features. Driven by the AMD Kintex-7 XC7K70T FPGA (Speed Grade 1) housed in a compact FBG484 package, the Skoll K7 provides outstanding processing flexibility and performance scaling for everything from educational experiments to commercial embedded product development.

Designed with efficiency in mind, the module integrates 2Gb of high-speed DDR3 SDRAM and 128Mb of Quad-SPI configuration flash. Its onboard FTDI FT2232H USB-to-serial/JTAG controller permits direct firmware updates and bitstream loading over a high-speed USB 2.0 connection, eliminating the requirement for expensive external download cables. Featuring a stable 100MHz CMOS oscillator, single-rail power regulation, and 150 flexible user I/Os, it functions as a powerful standalone unit or an effortless upgrade path from older Saturn and Neso platforms.

Key Features

  • AMD Kintex-7 XC7K70T Core: Advanced 7-series silicon fabric in an FBG484 package (Speed Grade 1) built for high throughput and dense logic integration.
  • DDR3 SDRAM Integration: 2Gb high-speed memory configuration dedicated to swift data processing and buffering.
  • Quad-SPI Flash Storage: 128Mb Quad bit SPI flash memory (N25Q128A13EF840E) for reliable non-volatile configuration and data storage.
  • FTDI FT2232H USB Interface: Dual-channel USB 2.0 controller where Channel A handles dedicated SPI Flash/JTAG programming and Channel B supports custom host applications.
  • Precision Clock Source: Stable onboard 100MHz CMOS oscillator ensuring reliable primary system timing.
  • Single-Rail Power Flexibility: Integrated onboard voltage regulators allowing simplified power distribution from a single external rail.
  • Massive I/O Availability: 150 user-defined FPGA I/O pins complemented by 8 additional lines via the FT2232H interface.

Benefits

  • Programmer-Free Configuration: Load bitstreams straight to flash over USB 2.0 without needing specialized Xilinx download cables.
  • Seamless Module Migration: Pin-compatible footprint matching Saturn S6 and Neso A7 boards, ensuring an easy upgrade pathway.
  • Compact & Breadboard Friendly: Delivers high-density Kintex-7 processing power in a streamlined form factor suited for carrier boards.
