SPIDER Automation | MY1016Z3 24V 350W Geared Brushed DC E-Bike Motor Kit | Controller, Twist Throttle & Brake Lever

Overview

The MY1016Z3 24V 350W Geared Brushed DC E-Bike Conversion Kit combines the main electrical and control components required for a DIY electric bicycle or custom electric vehicle project. The package includes a reduction-geared brushed DC motor, 24V 350W motor controller, twist throttle and brake lever, reducing the need to source these primary components individually.

The MY1016Z3 motor uses an integrated gearbox and a 9-tooth sprocket for a 1/8-inch bicycle chain. Its specified geared output speed is 300RPM. The included controller is designed for brushed DC motors and provides connection provisions for the motor, accelerator, brake, battery, battery charging connection, brake light and power lock.

This kit is suitable for DIY electric bicycle conversions, electric scooter projects and other compatible chain-driven mechanical applications. A suitable 24V battery is required separately; the battery is not included in the package.

Motor Performance & Gear Reduction

The MY1016Z3 is specified as a 24V, 350W geared brushed DC motor with a rated output speed of 300RPM. Its integrated gearbox reduces the motor’s rotational speed before transferring mechanical output to the drive sprocket.

The geared output is intended for chain-driven applications where the motor drives a bicycle wheel or another mechanical load through a compatible sprocket arrangement. The final vehicle speed and wheel torque depend on the driven sprocket size, wheel diameter, battery voltage under load, vehicle weight, terrain and controller operation.

The supplier also lists rated torque and stall torque values. These are included in the Product Specifications section for technical reference. Stall torque is a locked-rotor condition and should not be treated as a continuous operating torque.

Motor Controller & Electrical Connections

The kit includes a 24V 350W brushed DC motor controller intended for the MY1016-series motor configuration. The controller provides connection provisions for the motor, accelerator, brake, battery, battery charging connection, brake light and power lock.

  • Motor Connection: Provides the electrical output connection for the supplied brushed DC motor.
  • Accelerator Connection: Connects the included twist throttle for motor control.
  • Brake Connection: Provides a brake-control connection for the compatible brake lever interface.
  • Battery Connection: Connects the external 24V battery system to the controller.
  • Charging Connection: Includes a provision for the battery charging connection. The controller is not a substitute for a battery charger.
  • Brake-Light Connection: Provides a connection provision for a compatible brake-light circuit.
  • Power-Lock Connection: Provides a power-lock interface for the controller system.

The controller’s current-limit value is listed as 33A, while its rated power is 350W. The current-limit figure is a controller protection/control parameter and should not be interpreted as the motor’s continuous operating current. Follow the actual wiring diagram and controller documentation when connecting the kit.

Controller Dimensions & Installation

The included controller has a compact enclosure measuring 83 × 70 × 38mm and is supplied with approximately 10cm-long cables. Its aluminium housing provides the physical enclosure for the controller electronics.

Mount the controller in a protected, secure position with adequate space around the enclosure. Keep the wiring routed away from moving chain components, sharp frame edges and excessive heat sources.

Chain Drive & Mechanical Integration

The MY1016Z3 motor is supplied with a 9-tooth sprocket designed for a 1/8-inch bicycle chain. This provides the mechanical interface for transferring the geared motor output to a compatible driven sprocket.

  • Chain Compatibility: Use a 1/8-inch bicycle chain compatible with the motor sprocket and driven sprocket.
  • Sprocket Alignment: Align the motor sprocket and driven sprocket in the same plane to support smooth chain movement.
  • Chain Tension: Maintain suitable chain tension to prevent excessive slack or unnecessary mechanical loading.
  • Motor Mounting: Secure the motor to a rigid mounting structure designed for the motor’s dimensions and chain loads.

Applications

  • DIY Electric Bicycle Conversion: For custom bicycle projects requiring a 24V geared brushed DC motor, controller and handlebar throttle.
  • Electric Scooter Builds: For compatible chain-driven scooter projects designed around a 24V brushed motor system.
  • Custom Electric Vehicles: For small electric vehicle prototypes using a compatible chain transmission and mounting arrangement.
  • Electric Go-Kart Projects: For suitable lightweight go-kart designs where the motor output and drivetrain are appropriately matched.
  • Robotics: For mobile robotic platforms requiring a geared brushed DC motor and compatible controller.
  • Mechanical Chain-Drive Systems: For custom equipment using a compatible 1/8-inch chain and driven sprocket arrangement.

Installation & Operating Recommendations

Install the MY1016Z3 motor and controller as a matched brushed DC drive system. Ensure that the chain, sprockets, motor mounting and handlebar controls are mechanically and electrically compatible with the bicycle or custom vehicle.

  • Battery Selection: Use a compatible 24V battery system. Confirm the controller’s input-voltage requirements and the battery’s fully charged voltage before connection.
  • Controller Matching: Use the included controller for the intended brushed DC motor. Do not substitute a BLDC controller.
  • Current Capacity: Select battery wiring, connectors, switches and protective devices according to the actual operating current and controller requirements. Do not treat the 33A current-limit value as the motor’s continuous current rating.
  • Motor Wiring: Follow the controller wiring diagram when connecting the motor. Disconnect the battery before changing motor polarity or other electrical connections.
  • Chain Compatibility: Use a compatible 1/8-inch bicycle chain with the 9-tooth motor sprocket and driven sprocket.
  • Chain Alignment: Align both sprockets and adjust chain tension to avoid chain derailment, excessive wear and unnecessary gearbox loading.
  • Controller Mounting: Secure the aluminium controller housing in a protected position with sufficient clearance around it.
  • Brake Installation: Install the included left-hand brake lever and ensure the bicycle’s mechanical braking system is correctly adjusted before powered use.
  • Initial Testing: Test the motor at low load and check throttle response, braking operation, chain tracking, motor rotation and controller temperature.
  • Battery Charging: Use a charger specifically matched to the battery chemistry and configuration. The controller’s charging connection provision does not mean a battery charger is included.
