Description

The HC595PW,118 is a widely used high-speed, silicon-gate CMOS 8-bit Serial-in, Serial/Parallel-out Shift Register. It features an 8-bit storage register (latch) with 3-state outputs. This combination makes it an extremely popular choice for expanding the number of output pins on a microcontroller, as it allows you to control 8 outputs using only 3 data lines.

Data is shifted into the internal shift register on the positive-going transition of the SHCP (Shift Clock) input. Once the desired data is loaded, a positive-going pulse on the STCP (Storage Clock) input transfers the data to the output latches. The 3-state output feature allows for easy bus integration, while the master reset (MR) provides a way to clear the shift register at any time.
