Description
The 74HCT4020N is a 14-stage binary ripple counter. It is a high-speed, silicon-gate device that provides a powerful way to perform frequency division or event counting. The counter consists of 14 master-slave flip-flops that are internally cascaded, with the output of one flip-flop serving as the clock input for the next. This creates a “ripple” effect where the binary count increments with each negative-going transition of the clock pulse.
The device features an active-HIGH Master Reset (MR) input. When MR is driven HIGH, all stages are reset to zero, regardless of the clock signal. Because it belongs to the 74HCT series, it is specifically designed to be TTL-compatible, allowing it to interface directly with standard 5V TTL logic levels while maintaining the low power consumption characteristics of CMOS.
