Description

The 74HC4017D,653 is a high-speed, silicon-gate CMOS 5-Stage Johnson Decade Counter. It features 10 decoded outputs (Q0 through Q9) and a carry-out (TC) output. The device advances its count on the positive edge of the clock (CP0) signal, provided the active-LOW clock enable (CP1) is at a LOW level. A master reset (MR) input is provided to clear the counter to the zero state (Q0 = HIGH, others LOW).

The 74HC4017 is widely used in applications requiring a sequential stepping signal, such as LED chasers, multiplexers, and frequency dividers. Its ability to provide a “one-hot” decoded output—where only one output is active at any given time—makes it extremely useful for driving sequential indicators or time-division multiplexed circuits.
