SPIDER Automation | 6mm Waterproof Solder Seal Heat Shrink Butt Splice Connector – 10–12AWG | Solder-Based Wire Termination & Adhesive Sealing – 4 Pieces

Product Overview & Solder Seal Technology

The 6mm Solder Seal Heat Shrink Butt Splice Connector is designed for joining compatible electrical wires through an integrated soldering and heat-shrink process. It combines a copper terminal body, tin plating, a solder ring and hot melt adhesive within a polyolefin insulating sleeve. This construction provides an alternative to conventional crimp-style and twist-on wire connections for suitable electrical termination applications.

During installation, stripped wire ends are inserted into the connector from opposite sides. When heat is applied using a suitable heat gun, the polyolefin tubing contracts around the wires, while the integrated solder ring melts and flows through the exposed conductors. The hot melt adhesive also softens to form a seal around the wire entry points, helping protect the completed connection against moisture and corrosion-related exposure.

The connector is specified for 10–12AWG wire and features a 2:1 shrink ratio. Its 40mm overall length provides a defined connection area for compatible wire combinations. The transparent white-yellow sleeve allows the wire positioning and solder area to be visually inspected during installation.

With a stated solder melting start temperature of 138°C and minimum full recovery temperature of 160°C, this connector is intended for controlled heat-gun installation. Correct heating and wire preparation are important for achieving a reliable electrical joint and protective seal.

Technical Features & Performance Characteristics

  • Integrated Solder Splice: Contains a solder ring inside the sleeve that melts when heated and flows through the stripped wire conductors to establish an electrical connection.
  • 10–12AWG Wire Compatibility: Designed for compatible wire sizes within the specified 10–12AWG range.
  • 6mm Connector Size: Specified diameter for selecting the appropriate connector for the intended wiring application.
  • 2:1 Heat-Shrink Ratio: The polyolefin sleeve contracts around the wire joint during heating to provide a closer-fitting covering.
  • Copper Terminal Body: Copper construction forms the conductive terminal section of the solder splice.
  • Tin-Plated Finish: The specified tin plating provides the terminal’s plated surface.
  • Polyolefin Insulating Tubing: Provides the outer heat-shrink insulation and protective sleeve around the connection.
  • Hot Melt Adhesive Lining: Softens during heating to help seal the wire entry points and protect against moisture ingress.
  • Solder Melting Start Temperature: The supplied specification states that solder melting starts at 138°C.
  • Minimum Full Recovery Temperature: The stated minimum temperature for full recovery is 160°C.
  • Transparent White-Yellow Sleeve: Helps identify the connector size and allows visual inspection of wire placement during assembly.
  • 40mm Overall Length: Provides the specified sleeve length for the wire termination area.

Performance Advantages

  • Crimp-Free Wire Termination: Uses an integrated soldering process, eliminating the need for a separate crimping operation when installed as specified.
  • Combined Electrical and Insulation Function: Integrates the solder connection and heat-shrink insulation in a single connector.
  • Moisture-Resistant Sealing: Hot melt adhesive helps seal the wire entry points against moisture and environmental exposure.
  • Secure Wire Joining: The melted solder flows through the stripped conductors, while the recovered sleeve helps support the completed joint.
  • Visual Installation Inspection: The transparent sleeve makes it easier to check wire positioning before and during heating.
  • Compact Connection Assembly: The 40mm connector combines the splice and protective sleeve into one termination component.

Industrial, Commercial & Technical Applications

  • Automotive Wiring: Suitable for compatible automotive wire splicing and electrical maintenance applications.
  • Marine Electrical Systems: Can be used for suitable marine wiring connections where moisture-resistant sealing is required.
  • Aviation Wiring Maintenance: Intended for compatible wiring termination tasks where the connector’s specifications and applicable aviation requirements permit its use.
  • Electrical Harness Assembly: Supports joining compatible wires during harness construction and repair.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Suitable for selected electrical wire repair and replacement applications.
  • Industrial Wiring: Can be used for compatible low-voltage wiring and electrical assembly work.
  • Robotics and Electronic Systems: Suitable for compatible power and signal wiring where the 10–12AWG wire range is appropriate.
  • Custom Electrical Installations: Provides an integrated solder-and-seal option for compatible wire combinations.

Installation & Operating Recommendations

  • Select the Correct Connector: Confirm that the connector size is suitable for the wire gauge and conductor combination being joined.
  • Prepare the Wire Ends: Strip an appropriate length of insulation from each wire without cutting or damaging the conductor strands.
  • Insert the Conductors: Insert the stripped wire ends from opposite sides so that the exposed conductors meet within the central solder section.
  • Apply Controlled Heat: Use a suitable heat gun and distribute heat evenly around the sleeve. Continue until the solder melts and flows through the exposed conductors and the tubing recovers around the wires.
  • Allow the Joint to Cool: Keep the wires steady while the solder solidifies and the adhesive seal sets. Do not move or pull the connection while it is cooling.
  • Inspect the Finished Connection: Check the solder flow, wire positioning and sleeve recovery. Verify electrical continuity and insulation before putting the assembly into service.
  • Follow Temperature Limits: Avoid excessive heating that could damage the wire insulation, nearby components or connector sleeve.
