SPIDER Automation | 4x AA Battery Holder | USB Plug with ON/OFF Switch & Sliding Cover
The SPIDER Automation 4x AA Battery Holder with USB Plug provides an enclosed battery mounting solution for portable electronic projects and compatible USB-powered equipment. It accommodates four AA cells in a series arrangement, combining the voltage of the installed batteries to provide a removable DC power source.
Designed for convenient everyday operation, the holder features a black plastic enclosure with a removable sliding cover and locking screw. An integrated ON/OFF switch allows manual control of the battery supply, while the attached USB cable provides a convenient connection interface for compatible devices. The enclosed construction keeps the cells organized and allows access when battery replacement is required.
Technical Features & Design Advantages
- Four-Cell Battery Compartment: Accommodates four standard AA batteries within a single enclosed housing.
- Series Battery Arrangement: Combines the voltage of the installed cells to provide a higher-voltage battery supply.
- USB Connection Interface: Provides a USB plug for connecting to compatible USB power input equipment.
- Integrated ON/OFF Switch: Enables convenient manual control of the connected load’s power supply.
- Sliding Cover with Locking Screw: Provides access to the battery compartment while helping retain the installed cells.
- Plastic Enclosure: Keeps the batteries arranged within a dedicated housing.
- Portable Battery Supply: Suitable for compatible electronic projects requiring a removable battery-powered source.
Electrical Configuration & Battery Compatibility
The four AA battery positions are connected in series. The combined output voltage depends on the chemistry and nominal voltage of the installed cells.
- Alkaline AA Cells: Four 1.5V cells provide approximately 6V nominal output.
- NiMH / NiCd Rechargeable Cells: Four 1.2V cells provide approximately 4.8V nominal output.
The holder does not include a voltage regulator or DC-DC conversion circuit. Therefore, the USB connector should be treated as a connection interface for the battery-derived output, not as confirmation of a regulated 5V supply. Check the connected device’s permitted input voltage before use.
USB Connector & Power Control
- Output Connector: USB plug.
- Power Control: Integrated ON/OFF switch.
- Power Source: Four AA cells connected in series.
The USB plug provides a convenient physical connection to compatible USB input equipment. The integrated switch allows the battery supply to be switched ON or OFF without removing the cells. The holder does not provide USB charging, voltage regulation or battery protection functions.
Mechanical Design & Battery Retention
The holder features a black plastic case with a removable sliding cover. A small locking screw secures the cover after the batteries have been installed, helping keep the cells positioned within the enclosure.
- Enclosure Material: Plastic.
- Housing Colour: Black.
- Cover Design: Removable sliding cover.
- Cover Retention: Locking screw.
- Battery Access: Enclosed compartment with removable cover.

Connection & Operating Recommendations
For dependable operation, use four compatible AA cells and connect the holder only to equipment designed for the resulting battery voltage. The USB plug provides a convenient connection format, but the battery voltage is not automatically converted to a regulated USB supply. Confirm input-voltage compatibility before connecting sensitive electronics.
- Use Matched Battery Cells: Install four cells of the same chemistry, capacity and similar charge condition to support consistent operation.
- Check Device Voltage Compatibility: Confirm that the connected device can accept the actual battery-derived voltage. Do not assume that every USB-powered device can operate directly from this holder.
- Operate the Integrated Switch: Use the ON/OFF switch to control the battery supply when the connected equipment is not in use.
- Secure the Battery Cover: Position the sliding cover correctly and fasten the locking screw after installing the cells.
- Replace Cells Together: Replace all four batteries as a set rather than mixing new and partially discharged cells.
- Use a Chemistry-Compatible Charger: Remove rechargeable cells from the holder and charge them with a charger designed for their specific chemistry.
- Use Appropriate Power Conversion: If the connected equipment requires a regulated 5V USB supply, use a suitable DC-DC converter designed for the battery input range and required output current.
