SPIDER Automation | 22T Metal Freewheel with Adapter | MY1016Z & MY1018 Motor Compatibility
Product Overview
The 22T Metal Freewheel with Adapter is a mechanical drivetrain assembly designed for compatible motorised bicycle and electric mobility applications. It combines a 22-tooth freewheel sprocket with an adapter for integration into suitable chain-drive systems.
The assembly is intended for use with Yalu MY1016Z and MY1018 motors. Other motor models may require a separately selected adapter that matches the motor shaft and mounting arrangement. The freewheel is designed for a 1/2″ × 1/8″ bicycle chain and compatible threaded-hub installations.
Its one-way overrunning mechanism transmits drive in the intended direction while allowing the driven side to rotate independently when it moves faster than the drive side. This supports coasting in suitable drivetrain configurations. It is not intended for cassette-style hubs.
Technical Features & Functional Characteristics
- 22-Tooth Sprocket: Provides a 22T chain engagement profile for compatible single-speed drivetrain arrangements.
- Metal Construction: Made from metal for mechanical transmission applications.
- One-Way Overrunning Clutch: Allows the driven side to overrun the input side when it rotates faster, providing freewheeling action.
- Adapter Supplied: Includes an adapter intended for compatible MY1016Z and MY1018 motor installations.
- 1/2″ × 1/8″ Chain Compatibility: Designed for a commonly used bicycle chain size.
- Threaded-Hub Installation: Intended for compatible threaded-hub mounting arrangements rather than cassette hubs.
- Single-Speed Drivetrain: Suitable for compatible motorised bicycle and custom electric vehicle chain-drive systems.
Freewheel Mechanism & Drivetrain Operation
A freewheel incorporates a one-way clutch that transmits rotational force in the driving direction and allows the driven side to overrun the input side. When the driven wheel rotates faster than the motor-driven sprocket, the mechanism permits relative rotation rather than forcing the motor to follow the wheel speed.
This operating principle is useful in compatible bicycle and electric mobility drivetrains where coasting is required. The correct operating direction, hub mounting interface, chain alignment and adapter fitment are important for proper installation.
Motor & Hub Compatibility
The supplied adapter is intended for compatible Yalu MY1016Z and MY1018 motors. Compatibility with other motor models depends on the shaft diameter, mounting interface and adapter geometry. A separate suitable adapter may be required for other motor types.
The freewheel is intended for threaded hubs. It is not designed for cassette-style hub mounting. Confirm that the hub thread and freewheel mounting interface match before assembly.
Applications
- MY1016Z Motor Drivetrains: For compatible Yalu MY1016Z motor installations using the supplied adapter.
- MY1018 Motor Drivetrains: For compatible MY1018 motorised bicycle and vehicle transmission systems.
- Electric Bicycle Conversions: For suitable e-bike chain-drive layouts requiring a one-way freewheel.
- Electric Scooters: For compatible scooter drivetrains using a matching threaded-hub arrangement.
- Electric Tricycles and Rickshaws: For suitable three-wheeled electric mobility systems with compatible chain transmission.
- ATV and Buggy Projects: For custom electric vehicle drivetrains where the freewheel, hub and chain interfaces are appropriately matched.
- Electric Utility Carts: For compatible three- or four-wheel electric cart transmission designs.
- Custom Mobility Builds: For suitable motorised vehicle projects requiring a single-speed overrunning clutch arrangement.
- Replacement Freewheel Assemblies: For replacing an existing threaded-hub freewheel when tooth count, chain size and mounting interfaces match.

Installation & Operating Recommendations
Install the freewheel assembly only on a compatible threaded hub and motor mounting arrangement. Correct thread engagement, adapter fitment, chain alignment and freewheel orientation are important for reliable drivetrain operation.
- Confirm Motor Compatibility: Use with a compatible MY1016Z or MY1018 motor. For other motors, select an adapter that matches the shaft and mounting geometry.
- Check Hub Type: Confirm that the wheel hub is threaded and designed for the relevant freewheel interface. Do not attempt to install it on a cassette hub.
- Match the Chain: Use a compatible 1/2″ × 1/8″ bicycle chain and check that it engages correctly with the 22T sprocket.
- Check Thread Engagement: Ensure the freewheel mounts correctly on the threaded hub without cross-threading or forced fitting.
- Confirm Freewheel Orientation: Install in the correct direction so the clutch engages during drive and overruns during coasting.
- Align the Drivetrain: Maintain a suitable chain line between the motor drive and wheel-side sprocket to reduce uneven loading.
- Set Chain Tension: Maintain appropriate chain tension according to the drivetrain design and avoid excessive tension.
- Test Before Powered Operation: Rotate the drivetrain manually to check engagement, freewheeling action and mechanical clearance before applying motor power.
