SPIDER Automation | 1S 3.7V Lithium-Ion Battery Protection Board | 2A Charge / Discharge | Compact Spot-Weld PCB

Product Overview

The SPIDER Automation 1S Lithium-Ion Battery Protection Board is a compact battery protection circuit designed for single-cell rechargeable lithium-ion and compatible lithium-polymer battery assemblies. It monitors cell voltage and controls charging and discharging through an integrated MOSFET switching circuit.

The board incorporates protection against overcharging, excessive discharge and abnormal current conditions. Its narrow PCB format and battery connection pads make it suitable for integration into compact battery-powered electronic products and custom battery assemblies.

Technical Features & Protection Architecture

  • High-Accuracy Voltage Detection: Uses a voltage-monitoring circuit to detect battery conditions relevant to overcharge and over-discharge protection.
  • MOSFET Charge/Discharge Control: Integrated MOS transistors control the battery’s charging and discharging paths.
  • Overcharge Protection: Detects excessive cell voltage and activates the corresponding protective response.
  • Over-Discharge Protection: Monitors cell voltage to help prevent excessive depletion during battery operation.
  • Three-Stage Overcurrent Detection: Incorporates separate detection stages for overcurrent conditions and load short circuits.
  • Short-Circuit Protection: Includes a protective response for load short-circuit conditions.
  • Non-Balancing Circuit: Designed for a single-cell battery configuration and does not provide cell balancing.

Battery Integration & Connection Design

This protection board is intended for a single-cell battery assembly. Its compact connection-pad arrangement supports integration into battery packs where space is limited. The battery connection method should be selected according to the actual pad design and the materials used in the battery assembly.

The board is a protection circuit rather than a charging regulator. A compatible single-cell lithium-ion charging circuit must be used to control the charging process correctly.

Connection & Operating Recommendations

  • Single-Cell Compatibility: Use this board only with a compatible single-cell lithium-ion battery assembly.
  • Charging Circuit: Use a dedicated single-cell lithium-ion charger with the correct charging profile. The protection board does not replace a charger.
  • Connection Polarity: Follow the PCB’s actual positive and negative markings when connecting the battery and load.
  • Spot-Welding: Use a suitable spot-welding process and compatible nickel strip only where the connection-pad construction supports it. Avoid excessive heat during assembly.
  • Load Selection: Keep the connected load within the board’s specified continuous discharge capability.
  • Electrical Insulation: Insulate exposed conductors and prevent accidental short circuits during battery-pack assembly.
