SPIDER Automation | 3S 11.1V 10A 18650 Li-ion Battery BMS Protection Board | HX-3S-FL25A-A

The SPIDER Automation 3S Li-ion Battery Protection Board is designed to manage and protect rechargeable battery packs built using three series-connected lithium-ion cell groups. It monitors battery operating conditions and provides essential protection against overcharging, excessive discharge and short-circuit events.

Based on the HX-3S-FL25A-A board model, this protection PCB is suitable for compatible 18650 battery assemblies used in portable electronic equipment, lighting systems and custom DC power applications. Its compact construction allows integration into appropriately designed battery enclosures.

Technical Features & Protection Functions

  • Overcharge Protection: Monitors cell-group voltage and interrupts charging when the overcharge protection condition is detected.
  • Over-Discharge Protection: Helps prevent excessive battery discharge by disconnecting the load under low-voltage conditions.
  • Short-Circuit Protection: Provides a protective response when a short circuit is detected at the output.
  • Overcurrent Handling: Designed to support the specified working and short-duration peak current limits.
  • Low Standby Consumption: Keeps the board’s static current draw low when the battery pack is in standby.

3S Battery Configuration & Electrical Operation

This protection board is intended for a 3S lithium-ion battery pack, consisting of three cell groups connected in series. Each group can contain one or more compatible cells connected in parallel, depending on the required battery capacity and cell arrangement.

For conventional 3.7V nominal lithium-ion cells, the assembled pack provides a nominal voltage of 11.1V and reaches 12.6V at full charge. Use a dedicated 3S lithium-ion charger designed for the correct full-charge voltage.

Battery Pack Integration

The BMS must be connected to the battery assembly according to the PCB’s terminal markings and the specified series-cell sequence. Correct cell-group sensing connections are essential for the protection circuit to monitor the battery pack properly.

  • Series Cell Arrangement: Connect three compatible lithium-ion cell groups in the correct series configuration.
  • Cell Sensing Connections: Follow the PCB terminal labels and connection diagram for the battery junctions.
  • Protected Output: Connect the charger and load through the designated output terminals, following the board’s connection layout.

Applications

This 3S battery protection PCB is suitable for compatible lithium-ion battery packs used in low-voltage rechargeable equipment and electronic projects.

Connection & Operating Recommendations

  • Cell Matching: Use compatible cells with similar capacity, internal resistance and state of charge.
  • Correct Wiring Sequence: Connect the battery terminals according to the PCB markings and the correct 3S cell-group order.
  • Charger Compatibility: Use a dedicated 3S lithium-ion CC/CV charger with the correct full-charge voltage.
  • Load Selection: Keep normal operating loads within the specified working-current rating. Consider motor start-up and stall current when selecting the application.
  • Thermal Management: Provide sufficient ventilation and avoid restricting heat dissipation around the PCB.
  • Battery Chemistry: Use conventional lithium-ion cells only; do not assume compatibility with LiFePO4 or other battery chemistries.
