SPIDER Automation Emax SimonK Series 30A Brushless ESC | 2S–3S LiPo, 5V 2A BEC for Multirotor & RC Aircraft
Description
The SPIDER Automation Emax SimonK Series 30A Brushless ESC is an electronic speed controller designed to regulate the operation and speed of compatible brushless DC motors. Based on SimonK firmware, it is intended for multirotor and RC aircraft propulsion systems requiring a 30A continuous current rating and a 40A burst current capability for up to 10 seconds.
Supporting 2S–3S LiPo batteries, the ESC incorporates a built-in 5V/2A BEC for powering compatible receiver and onboard control electronics. Its protection functions include low-voltage, over-temperature and throttle-signal-loss protection. Programmable operating parameters and throttle-range calibration provide configuration flexibility when setting up a compatible brushless motor and receiver system.
Key Features & Performance Characteristics
- SimonK Motor-Control Firmware: Based on SimonK firmware with further optimisation for brushless motor drive performance.
- 30A Continuous Current Capability: Designed to handle continuous motor current up to the stated 30A rating under suitable operating conditions.
- 40A Burst Current Capability: Supports short-duration peak current up to 40A for a maximum stated period of 10 seconds.
- Motor Speed Control: Regulates compatible BLDC motor operation in multirotor and RC aircraft propulsion systems.
- High-Speed Operation: Supports the stated maximum electrical speed limits according to motor pole count.
- Low-Voltage Protection: Incorporates low-voltage protection for battery-powered operation.
- Over-Temperature Protection: Includes protection against excessive operating temperature.
- Throttle-Signal-Loss Protection: Provides a protection function for loss of the throttle control signal.
Integrated BEC & Power Architecture
The ESC includes a built-in 5V/2A Battery Eliminator Circuit (BEC) to supply compatible low-voltage onboard electronics. This can reduce the need for a separate receiver power supply in installations where the BEC output meets the connected equipment’s requirements.
The microcontroller (MCU) and BEC use separate power supplies, an arrangement intended to improve the ESC’s ability to eliminate the effects of magnetic interference.
- BEC Output: 5V regulated output.
- BEC Current Rating: 2A.
- Power Arrangement: Separate power supplies for the MCU and BEC.
Programmable Configuration & Throttle Calibration
The ESC supports configuration of operating parameters using a compatible programming card or transmitter. Its throttle range can also be calibrated to suit different compatible receiver systems, helping establish the required control range during installation.
- Parameter Adjustment: ESC settings can be configured through a compatible programming card or transmitter.
- Throttle-Range Calibration: Allows adjustment of the throttle range for compatible receiver systems.
- System Setup: Configure the ESC according to the connected motor, receiver and battery system.
Motor Speed Compatibility
The stated maximum motor speed capability varies according to the number of motor poles. The following limits are provided for the supported pole configurations:
| Motor Pole Count | Maximum Stated Speed |
|---|---|
| 2-Pole | 210,000 RPM |
| 6-Pole | 70,000 RPM |
| 12-Pole | 35,000 RPM |
Applications
- Multirotor Propulsion Systems: Electronic speed control for compatible brushless motors in multirotor platforms.
- RC Aircraft: Motor speed regulation in compatible fixed-wing radio-controlled aircraft.
- Brushless DC Motor Systems: Electronic commutation and speed control for compatible BLDC motors.
- Multirotor Development: Integration into suitable brushless motor and flight-control system configurations.
- RC Propulsion System Maintenance: Replacement or integration into compatible propulsion assemblies.

Connection & Operating Recommendations
- Use only with a compatible 2S–3S LiPo battery system and brushless motor.
- Ensure the motor’s expected continuous current remains within the ESC’s 30A rating.
- Treat 40A as a short-duration burst rating limited to the stated 10-second period, not as a continuous operating current.
- Provide adequate airflow and thermal management around the ESC, particularly during high-load operation.
- Verify that the receiver and connected control electronics are compatible with the 5V/2A BEC output and that their combined current demand remains within its rating.
- Calibrate the throttle range and configure parameters using the appropriate compatible transmitter or programming card before operation.
- Check motor phase connections, battery polarity and wiring insulation before applying power.
- Secure the ESC so that it cannot contact rotating components or conductive surfaces during operation.
