Description
The MAX7221 is a compact, serial-interfaced, common-cathode display driver that simplifies the process of controlling 7-segment LED displays (up to 8 digits), bar-graph displays, or 64 individual LEDs. It connects microprocessors to these displays via a standard 4-wire serial interface.
This IC includes an on-chip BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8×8 static RAM that stores each digit. Only one external resistor is required to set the segment current for all LEDs. The MAX7221 is specifically optimized for applications requiring low electromagnetic interference (EMI) and is compatible with SPI, QSPI, and MICROWIRE standards.
