Description

The 74LS90 is a high-speed, 4-bit ripple-carry decade counter. It consists of four master-slave flip-flops internally connected to provide a divide-by-two counter and a divide-by-five counter. This unique architecture allows the 74LS90 to function as a BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) decade counter or a bi-quinary counter, depending on how the input pins are connected.

The device features gated zero and nine reset inputs, allowing the counter to be reset to 0000 or set to 1001 (decimal 9) asynchronously. Because it belongs to the 74LS (Low-power Schottky) TTL series, it is widely used in classic digital timing and counting circuits where standardized TTL voltage levels are required.
